Pop punk music in the modern era
has grown by bringing up a lot of bands that offers a new color in their music,
and one of them is "The Wonder Years". The band that became one of
the pioneers Realist Pop Punk music has released a new album titled "No
Closer To Heaven" on 4 September 2015 via Hopeless Records. "No
Closer To Heaven" is the fifth album after the previous album "The
Greatest Generation" which was released in 2013 was able to achieve
success and get a lot of praise from music critics. The Wonder Years has become
one of the band whose name started to be discussed Since its emergence in the
third album entitled "Suburbia I've Given You All and Now I'm
Nothing". This time by bringing a new album titled "No Closer To
Heaven", The Wonder Years made it into the Billboard Top Albums charts at
position nine. Additionally, "No Closer To Heaven" also entered at
number 12 Billboard Top 200 and ranks first for Current Alternative Albums and
Vinyl LP Albums charts. This is a remarkable achievement for The Wonder Years.
"No Closer To Heaven"
consists of 13 songs and a process of this album done since the beginning of
the year is in March and April 2015. The album was produced by Steve Evetts and
recorded in The Omen Room. As we all know that Steve Evetts is a producer who
has handled many bands like Story of the Year, Sepultura, The Dilinger Escape
Plan and others. for the making of this album cover art, The Wonder Years
entrust Michael Cortada. The process of making the album "No Closer To
Heaven" is not easy, especially in terms of writing the album. To overcome
these problems, the vocalist Dan Campbell had to consult with his fellow
musicians and to the end he managed to write most of the material for this
album. Regarding the material in the album "No Closer To Heaven", Dan
Campbell said that the album is the theme of grief when we lose someone we
love. The theme used was more fresh than the previous albums. On this album
they are able to explore deeper emotional to create harmony every existing
instruments so as to produce the dynamics of good music to be enjoyed. Every
song on this album is filled with very personal lyric that describes the
despair, sadness, regret and certainly is the realist in accordance with the
type of music they have is Realist Pop Punk. The lyrics were written by a
reality in their daily lives. By paying attention to the lyrics in every song
on this album, we can enjoy this album as a whole.
Brothers & is the opening track on the album. Brothers & is an instrumental track
with a slow tempo with the accompaniment of a vocal group that managed to make
it appear as if a counterpoint to the next song. The song was also able to
provide an overview of the entire contents of the album. This song then continues
to the second song titled Cardinals.
You could say that the Cardinals is a
continuation of part of the song Brothers
& because both of these songs have a message that is inseparable. Cardinals is a song that tells of regret
that we can see into the lyrics were so emotional. The music video for the song
has also been released. Video Cardinals
directed by Kevin Slack and played by members of The Wonder Years. This video
tells Dan Campbell ran while carrying drummer Mike Kennedy who was unconscious
with down the road. Until finally the ambulance seen in front. but more
approachable, the ambulance getting away and Dan Campbell finally decided to
stop in his tracks. Furthermore, there is a song called Cigarettes & Saints which tells of sadness and this is depicted
in a music video that picked up the story of a woman who wrote a suicide note.
Then there is Thanks For The Rides
which is an upbeat song to tell about the reality of life is indeed ironic. The
song was inspired by the concern Dan Campbell to an old friend who had died. and
I Do not Like Who I Was Then is a
song that I liked in this album because this song has the lyrics are very
emotional in musicality built by The Wonder Years. That some of the songs on
